Whispering Winds Haven

The name Whispering Winds Haven, we just created tonight and its temporary until we know if we will be living here! Although the pictures do not do this place justice, it gives a good idea how we saw this precious house at Lake Cuyamaca, Ca. just very recently. Surprisingly enough its actually still considered the town of Julian, Ca. even though its approx. 12 miles outside of Julian. It's about 45-1 hrs. drive from San Diego. Its been on the market since July 98. We had already fallen in love with that area just recently and had looked at a few homes right before we did a viewing on this one. Just a few days before that, we discovered a homey family restaurant right across from the beautiful lake. We had dinner there & now breakfast too. They have German Austrian and American food. Great home cooking! There is also a sun deck on an upper level outside. Before we left that first evening the owner even gave me a free cup! (I took this as a positive omen of course!) I had inquired if I could purchase one. It has the image of the restaurant in blue on front along with trees and the business name. There is a small store attached along with the restaurant. It's open 7 days a week 6am -8pm. It's the closest market in Lake Cuyamaca area. There is also a fish bait shop next door. Lots of folks come for the fishing at Cuyamaca Lake. Altitude is over 3000 ft., so mountains are also a part of the beauty! This is truly a spectacular area and folks seem to enjoy living here both full time as well as visiting for day trips and weekend getaways.

Lake Cuyamaca

The name Cuyamaca has an original meaning in Native American culture depicting water. I will research more regarding this area and its rich history. This area has Native American history as well. Many of the streets in the vicinity are named after various Native American Tribes. This home is located on Yaqui Dr. The roads out there are paved and they plow during the few snow-falls during the winters. Right now it is autumn and the wonderful balmy mountain breezes and leaves changing colors are abound here! I am told it has 4 seasons here! Unusual for much of So. California! Reminds me a bit of No. California which we have often missed! To think this Lake Cuyamaca area was here all this time and we have just now discovered it! Timing is everything I guess! We had been to Julian before however, which is also a sweet, quaint and beautiful town. Just a bit more populated and a little less rural feeling in town. Of course the main shopping, markets, variety of restaurants and businesses etc, are within Julian proper.

This home shown in all the pictures is truly the one we are most definitely interested in! It is a 2 bedroom and 1.5 bath home. When the timing is right for us (it involves a few factors) we plan on making our offer! If it is meant to be...than it shall be, is how we are looking at this adventure! Well we try to see this as a way with most things we do in our lives in general! The original owners seemed to put lots of love and energy into this home! Seems that the woman's husband had died more recently. So it's up for sale now. There is still furniture, dishes, etc. and some of which may become available to go along with the new owners of the house. (Some nice vintage pieces too!) We both like to collect various things and have similar taste in styles and eras we prefer to collect from. That can include furniture, pottery, art, etc.

This home was originally built in 1948. It was a smaller cabin bungalow type-home at that time. (About 750 sq. ft. then). It is now over 1100-sq. foot, with the additional renovations. The original owners had added on a few room additions within last 5 yrs. or so. So its sure bigger now and has some newer features too. It works! Blends in with the older charm with newer touches and adds more light & space too. Like the open glassed in room, which opens directly onto back deck. You walk from the living room right into this glass & light filled room! It has sliding full-length patio doors with screens on a few sides and another window. This is one of our favorite rooms in this house! You could make it a dining room or an extension of living room. Or anything you want really. It overlooks the backyard and its views in all directions. What a sense of serenity... feels and seems its truly a haven for ones soul. A place to call home! A sense of magic for us! We think all three of our girls, our canine companions; Tara, Kaitlynne and Shawnee will surely love it here too! We can see them running and playing and snoozing by the hearth of the fireplace already!

The Living Room has a beautiful rustic style older stone fireplace with a wood burning stove inside of the fireplace. That looks very effective! Of course every window has a view of some kind! We did see a few that were bigger and one was even cheaper-but we didn't like them as well. Although one house had amazing across lake views from bedroom and L.R!! This house feels like a *home*!! it feels warm, safe, & the energy on this property feels very mellow and peaceful. You can hear the wind whisper through the pines & oaks and other trees. Lots of light & plenty of sunlight too. The breezes and smells out there are truly incredible! Re: work or renovations: It wouldn't actually need a whole lot of work, but we would do some cosmetic upgrading in kitchen-even though its very functional to use. A few other things in the house we would want to change more to our taste. Also one of our dreams and a of course it is a slight luxury! Is the intention to add an outdoor hot tub, most likely on the deck one day. Perhaps adding French doors out onto the decks. We both love french doors. Yard is only partially fenced & it needs to be fully fenced with our dogs. As well as ensuring us more privacy! The yard space is more flat w/a slight slope angle in a few areas.

There is also a seasonal creek that runs along the backside of property and is partially into the next lot. Yard space is approx. 1/4 acre. We really did want more acreage...but given the property values and the area we want to live in now. Its very reasonably priced compared to San Diego city housing values! The 1/2 -1-2 acre properties are farther out and of course more costly! Surprisingly- we had originally wanted to live more isolated and rural than this (or so I thought!) and now? I actually feel safer having homes nearby that I can see for some reason! Although they aren't like in the cities! Not right on top of us! We actually have room and more privacy! So as you can tell- we are quite taken with this piece of property and want to go live there ASAP!

Today (10-2-98) when we revisited it today for the 2nd time with the realtor... It helped to confirm even deeper that this is where we hope to live! Laura took numerous photos while we were there today! Last time we forgot the camera! We hadn't seen it since last weekend. But it surely has stayed in our hearts and minds! As I sat outside for a bit alone as Laura and the realtor were looking around outside etc. My eyes feasting on the gorgeous views and breathing deeply the sweet smelling air...I thought to myself, " This is truly a little piece of heaven!! & I would love to live here! Thank you Great Spirit for sharing this sacred space with me! So now begins the waiting to make an offer and the planning and work to prepare to put our home on the market! We can't move until our home here is sold of course... Until then we hold it in our hearts & thoughts!
